FW: ATHE 2016 Annual Conference - Call for papers

THE ASSOCIATION FOR TOURISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION (ATHE)

2016 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism

8th-9th December 2016 at Cardiff School of Management, Cardiff Metropolitan University

This year, our theme is ‘Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism’.  This theme picks up on how excellence and innovation is integrated into all aspects of curriculum development, teaching, learning and assessment in Tourism.  As such, this might include students, alumni, industry partners, educational partners or other institutions in the process.

Speakers, including Prof Brian Morgan, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Margaret Waters, Chair of Cardiff Hoteliers Association and Helen Tustin, Welsh Regional Chair ABTA, will provide us with the opportunity to reflect on our experience of creating impact in the widest sense in Tourism in Higher Education.  We are including a PhD Colloquium for the third year to encourage students to present at an established conference, meet potential employers and get constructive feedback in a friendly, supportive environment.

CONFERENCE THEMES

We welcome abstracts around the following themes:

  • Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism: Curriculum Development
  • Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism: The Learning Experience
  • Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism: Assessment
  • Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism: Education, Industry or Government Partners
  • Demonstrating Excellence and Innovation in Teaching Tourism: Professional Development

It is expected that the papers will be delivered in many ways: conceptual, discursive, critical, workshop based, experiential, or information dissemination. We welcome delegates’ perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that teaching Tourism and getting the Tourism voice heard bring to us in all realms of Higher Education.

·        PhD Colloquium: Progress in Tourism & Events

Abstracts should include background, practical implications, methods and/or data sources, and indicative findings of the paper.   They should be submitted by email to secretary@athe.org.uk  by 1st October 2016 using the attached abstract form.  All abstracts will be subject to a review process.

We look forward to see you at the conference in Cardiff in December!
