Call for papers for Journal for Multicultural Education

Special issue on “Resilience in Learning”

Guest Editor:

Carol Evans, University of Exeter, UK

You are invited to contribute to the special issue on “Resilience in Learning.”  This issue aims at enhancing understanding of resilience in learning from both individual and organisational perspectives in supporting learning within education and workplace contexts. We are especially interested in research considering how different cultures can support the development of learner and worker resilience (culture here is defined broadly e.g., familial; school, workplace, organization networks; ethnicity encompassing social, cultural and/or national groupings).

In the context of this special issue resilience is broadly defined to include:  consistency of interest and perseverance (Duckworth et al., 2007); cognitive style malleability (Zhang, 2013); learning dispositions and networks (Evans, 2014); emotional resilience (Abiola & Udofia, 2011); how we perceive ourselves – identity development; ability to traverse different communities of practice (Hong, 2010).

From an individual perspective articles could, for example, focus on the ability of learners to use a wide variety of learning strategies; development of learner self-regulation capacity (metacognitive, cognitive, affective dimensions); learner use of volitional strategies to support learning). From the organisational perspective we are interested in innovative ways to support learner / worker resilience; development of technologies to support learner resilience.

Articles can be in the form of a research paper, viewpoint, technical paper, conceptual paper, case study, literature review, general review.

In finalising the focus for your article please also refer to the editorial objectives outlined below which can be found at: http://www.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/call_for_papers.htm?id=5084

·        Fostering research into multicultural and inclusive education

·        Understanding multicultural education in the context of teacher-learner equity

·        Highlighting the role of digital education in supporting multicultural education and international education

·        Enabling learners to collaborate more effectively across ethnic, cultural and religious lines.

Each article is subjected to double blind peer review to ensure the articles meet the requirements of the journal in being authoritative, accessible and relevant.

Tradition Meets Modernity: Time for a Rethink of Policies, Planning and Development Initiatives

Following the success of the previous three International Conferences on Tourism (ICOT) and the support by the international scholarly community, the organizing committee has decided to continue the initiative with the organization of the 4th conference that will be held in Dalian, China.

Conference Aims and Scope

The growth in domestic, inbound and outbound tourism is one of the most recent and significant manifestations of globalization. This growth is often understood in broad contours, with tourism's position as a global engine of growth well solidified. However, little is understood as to how changing international inbound and outbound tourist flows affect policies, planning and development initiatives in cities, regions and countries around the globe.
MacCannell (1999) noted that the "rapid implosion of the Third World into the First constitutes a reversal and transformation of the structure of tourism, and in many ways it is more interesting than the first phase of the globalization of culture" (p. xxii). This change in tourists flows affects everyone working in tourism, from academics to practitioners, since international tourism is no longer a one-way street with Westerners visiting each other and the rest of the world.
The conference asks questions such as:

Are the specific needs and behaviors of tourists from developing countries met when traveling domestically, regionally and internationally?
• Rethinking paradigms and the old ways of thinking about tourism which are based on "western" values and western ideas about work, leisure, time and space, group and individual travel.
• While the economic impact of these flows makes an important contributions to destination countries, how do new flows affect these destinations socially and culturally? How do such flows affect receiving society perceptions? What affects the tourists travel propensity and behavior? Bearing all these in mind, this conference aims to add to this debate by stimulating discussion and exchange of ideas between tourism professionals, academics, researchers, policy-makers, consultants, practitioners, government officials and postgraduate students from all tourism-related fields.

Conference Themes

The conference will focus on a broad range of topics related to tourism, including (but not limited to):

Theoretical Perspectives on Tourism
• Tourism Development, Policy and Planning
• Public Administration of Tourism Development
• Local Government Role and Responses to Sustainable Tourism Development
• Community Responses to Tourists and Tourism
• Economic/Social/Environmental/Cultural Impacts of Tourism
• European Union Policies for Sustainable Tourism
• Tourism Education and its Role in Managing Sustainable Tourism Development
• Alternative and Special Forms of Tourism
• Case Studies and Applied Research on Various Types and Forms of Sustainable Tourism, Such as Agro-Tourism, Rural Tourism, Eco-Tourism and Cultural Tourism
• Industry's Role in Managing Growth
• Destination Marketing
• Information Technology in Tourism
• Tourism Research and Methodology
• Globalisation Effects
• Resiliency Planning
• Challenges and Best Practices of Hospitality and Tourism Marketing and Management
• Negotiation in Tourism

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstracts are invited for concurrent sessions and poster presentations. The abstract will be the sole criterion for reviewers to decide the acceptance (or not) of the paper or poster for presentation. Thus the abstract should clearly communicate the objective(s) of the work, the results and their significance, and the advancement over previous work. Time and effort spent constructing a clear, concise, and well-written abstract will maximize the chances of the paper being accepted. Original and significant work is a prerequisite for paper acceptance.
Submitted abstracts should be between 250 and 350 words. Abstracts may only be submitted on-line at http://iatour.net/icot/icot-2014-abstract-submission/, no later than May 23rd 2014.

Publication Plan

Conference Goals

The EuroMed Academy of Business annual conference has established itself as one of the major Business Management conferences of its kind in the EuroMed region (European and Mediterranean), in terms of size, quality of content, and standing reputation of attendees. Many of the papers presented contribute significantly to the business knowledge base. Its Book of Proceedings is highly recognized and accepted to be under citation. Many papers are published in Special Issues in leading journals, and are driving international research and teaching programs.

Our goal is to create a friendly and approachable academy and environment, a strong network, whereby its members (including senior worldwide scholars, faculty members, doctorate students, researchers and business practitioners) are guiding and mentoring each other. We differentiate as we assist participants to network and publish their valuable work (see below: a. Publication Opportunities, b. Authors' Network and Collaboration Workshop and c. Meet the Editors Session). Our participants also form specialised teams applying and getting involved in EU project funding. EMRBI network has submitted over 11 new projects last year. You can visit our Research Project Workshop (see below) that will take place during the conference.
