Making Waves in Macao

The 3rd International Conference on Events (ICE2015)

7-9 September 2015, Institute for Tourism Studies

Macao SAR, CHINA

Celebrating its 20th anniversary of quality education and research in tourism and hospitality management, the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) is going to proudly host Making Waves in Macao: the 3rd International Conference on Events on 7-9 September 2015. The first 'Making Waves' conference in Bournemouth set out to "harness this natural energy to create enthusiasm that will change the way we perform our work under the broad umbrella of events management". Making Waves in Macao critically reviews the value and meaning of events to individuals and communities with an emphasis on prevalent waves such as the use of social media in events, the Asian giants, and the arrival of the millennials as adults. This conference aims to examine a variety of contemporary issues in festivals and events, and, in particular, how the industry and communities respond to the following topics and/or event types:

Asian festivals and events | Business events (MICE) | Co-creation and event experience | Diasporas and identities | Events and equality | Green events and meeting the green challenge | Impacts and legacies of events | Management issues in events | New events space and place | Pedagogic research and experiential learning in events | Risks and safety, and crisis management | Sports events

We're pleased to announce that we have the honourable attendance of the following academics at the conference:

Dr Judith Mair | Professor Leo Jago | Dr Charles Arcodia | Professor Fevzi Okumus

In addition, we're delighted to have experts from the local and regional events industry:

Gene Capuano, Venetian Macao Resort Hotel

Robert Rogers, Events Man!, Hong Kong

We are also organising an industry forum with event executives from Macau and the region. The Macau Government Tourist Office and other entities in the tourism industry are also involved. This forum is open to all registered delegates who will find the discussion fruitful and insightful. More details to follow at a later stage.

Furthermore, there are special sessions dedicated to education in events, particularly the experiential element of delivering events as part of course curricula from case studies around the world.

Authors can submit abstracts of 500 words, and subsequently submit full papers to be published on the conference proceedings with ISSN. Selected full papers will be submitted to special issues International Journal of Event and Festival Management (IJEFM) and International Journal of Event Management Research (IJEMR), in addition to the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (IJCHM). The editors of these journals, Prof Fevzi Okumus, Dr Judith Mair and Dr Charles Arcodia, as well as guest editor of the special IJCHM issue, Dr Mathilda Van Niekerk, are confirmed delegates at the conference.

Submit your abstracts by 20 March to ice2015@ift.edu.mo. More information about the conference, include registration information and paper guidelines are available on the conference website:
