2. What is the special issue about?
In today's information and knowledge society (Castells 2011) the creation of value in enterprise is largely based on the use of knowledge. Due to increasing competition, the factor knowledge has become more relevant, some even referring to knowledge as the fourth production factor (Stewart 2010). The ability to identify, to acquire, to create, to transfer and to apply knowledge within an organisation or on the market in the form of new products and services, thus represent key skills and essential competitive factors. For organisations to remain functional, it is imperative that knowledge is distributed and used freely.
The main bulk of the tourism literature on knowledge has focused on knowledge transfer and the capacity to absorb knowledge (see for instance Shaw & Williams 2009; Baggio & Cooper 2010; Thomas 2012). Although there are some notable exceptions (see for instance Cooper (2006) for a model or Nadkarni (2008) for a case study), the aim of this special issue is to provide a detailed holistic analysis of knowledge management including the use of knowledge (Xiao & Smith 2007).
We therefore invite submissions of both conceptual and empirical papers offering new insights into the broader area of knowledge management in tourism and in public tourism policy in particular. Knowledge in large public administrations can be fragmented, yet it represents an essential part of society’s intellectual capital. Of particular interest are the following expressions of the relationships between knowledge, its management, tourism, public policy and wider society (although other themes/perspectives are also welcome):

Special Track: Changing Lifestyles and Tourism in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
Led by Professor Kevin Hannam, Dr Cody Morris Paris and Jihane Adeimi
Since the “Arab Spring”, the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) has experienced widespread conflicts and changes in the political, economic and socio-cultural arenas. At the same time, international tourism has continued to play a significant role in some Arabic countries in the face of new risks, while Halal tourism lifestyles and performances have been developed, following the rise of domestic tourism in the region. Previous research have examined aspects of cultural and heritage tourism and urban tourism development (Daher, 2007) as well as the wider geopolitics and mobilities in this region (Hazburn, 2008). This special track aims to give researchers a platform to discuss more recent tourism developments and changing lifestyles in the MENA region.
We therefore welcome high quality abstracts on a variety of themes, including:
· Developments in Halal/Islamic tourism and marketing in the MENA region
· Changing lifestyles, mobilities and tourism performances in the MENA region
· Changing host-guest relations in the MENA region
· New tourist destinations and urban tourism developments in the MENA region
· The politics of events in the MENA region
· Changing tourism policies and strategies in the MENA region
· The impact of risks on tourism in the MENA region
The convenors are currently looking at possibilities for publication.

| SOCIAL EVENTS 1. KOS ISLAND (GREECE) A day trip to this birthplace of Hippocrates will add color to your holidays and we will get you there fast in approximately 20 minutes, before the daily siesta closes all facilities and attractions. Kos is also the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. The Asklepieion, the oldest healing center of the ancient world, is the most outstanding monument of the island. St Peter's Castle, set in the harbor with five imposing towers and seven gates. The castle is home to the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology and you will visit its many fascinating displays including the dungeon, secret museum in the Snake Tower, German , English , French towers and a hall with ancient coins and jewelry.
Museum of Underwater Archaeology: You will see the world's oldest known shipwrecks Uluburun , a hall of recovered glassware and the Carian Princess exhibition which evokes the last days of the ancient greatness of Halicarnassus. Glass Wreck Hall, Late Bronze Age Shipwrecks, The Carian Princess Hall and the amphoras . In ancient times amphoras were used for transporting and storing Olive Oil and wine. Mausoleum: Next explore the site one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, The Mausoleum was built by Artemisia, the sister and the wife of King Mausolos, B.C. 355.The mausoleum was destroyed in an earthquake; and the ruins were used in building of the Halikarnassus Castle
Windmills: All of the historical windmills near Bodrum harbor. windmills made of stone and lined with wooden planks, and were used from the 18th century until the 70s by local people. They're being renovated as a tourist attraction on the hill and our guide stopping for take picture. Myndos Gate: Myndos Gate is one of the two entrances of ancient Halicarnassus. This is the only surviving gate and it was part of the towns wall. Myndos Gate walls 7km long and built by King Mausolus in the 4th Century.
Antique Theatre: Next stop will be the Ancient Theater of Halicarnassos, dated back to the 4th century BC with 5.000 capacity. You will have some free time for shopping. Programme:

The peninsula is situated on the southwest coast of Turkey, in the eastern Aegean cost. The Peninsula covers an area of 649 km2, with a 174 km long coastline, and is located between the bays of Gulluk and Gokova. It is surrounded by 32 small islands and its highest elevation reaches 690m. Enchanting fishing villages can be found on the quiet bays of the peninsula, particularly on the Northern side, while tangerine orchards and olive groves cover the fertile interior.
This day-trip will pick you up from your hotel around 09:00 am and take you directly from the south coast to Bitez, Bardakci, Bodrum before being driven to the north to, Yalikavak and Gumusluk. Gumusluk is a town renowned for its fish restaurants, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch.
