Global tourism: making or reclaiming spaces through mobility /circulation.

The tourism industry has been, and still is, a vehicle for the expansion of projects of (settler) colonialism and global capitalism. First of all, tourism reproduces colonial imaginaries of the timeless, exotic and native other. Native spaces and cultures are commodified in function of what Crick (1989) calls 'the hedonistic face of neocolonialism'. Secondly, these imaginaries induce flows of (metropolitan) tourists who transform places through their presence and fix the native's identity along a particular 'tourist gaze' (Urry, 1990).

Tourism not only brings imaginaries and tourists into circulation, but also generates mobility of capital and labor. It is an important vehicle of capitalist accumulation (Britton,1991). Turning representations of place and people into tourism products often happens in far way offices. The brochures and guidebooks produced here inscribe places into geographies of accumulation but also of imagination. The lack of control over tourism flows, often leaves the actual tourist workers with little means for the appropriation of surplus value (Bianchi, 2011) generating uneven developed touristic geographies (such as touristic enclaves).

Taking these observations as a point of entry, the panel organizes seek to call attention to how rationalities and practices related to tourism produce representations of space and cultures together with frameworks of recognition and commensuration that enable and encourage the flow of people, capital and ideas and the constitution of new relations of power and meaning between them. Learning from the Palestinian case, we are concerned with the ways in which people and places are variously being inscribed into, problematized or erased from the global geographies of colonialism and capitalism. Tourism will thus be scrutinized as entangled in (post-) colonial exploitation regimes, processes of capitalist expansion or settler colonial territorial acquisitions strategies.

We also invite researchers think about how this situation might be challenged, and whether tourism's productive side can be turned upside down into a emancipatory space (Higgins-Desbioles, 2006; Isaac & Hodge, 2011). Can justice tours, for example, be a tool to voice subaltern concerns, strengthen resistance and break through hegemonic power structures? Or are they merely another way of opening new touristic niche markets, thereby reinforcing the dominant geographies of tourism?

European Financial Management Association 2015 Annual Meeting

June 24- 27, 2015, Nyenrode Business University, Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS

The European Financial Management Association will hold its 24th Annual Meeting at the Nyenrode Business University in NETHERLANDS, June 24-27, 2015. Nyenrode Business University is 20 minute train ride from Amsterdam and directly connected to the Schiphol Airport.

RESEARCH PAPERS: Members and friends of the Association are invited to participate in the 2015 Annual Meeting. You are encouraged to submit research papers in all areas of Finance.

AWARDS: The Association will present the EFMA Conference Award ($2,000), GARP Risk Management Award ($2,500), EURONEXT Capital Markets Award (Euro 1,500), LANG Corporate Award ($2,000) & PhD Student Award ($2,000).

SPECIAL SESSIONS: In addition to the regular academic sessions, the program will include panel discussions, tutorial lectures, and invited presentations. The goals of these special sessions are to enhance the exchange of ideas between academicians and practitioners, to provide a forum for discussion of special topics and to offer educational opportunities for conference participants. Submit your proposal for a special session by writing to the Program Chair.

PUBLICATION: A set of papers presented at the meeting will be invited by the 2015 Program Chair to be considered for publication in the European Financial Management journal, in cooperation with the Managing Editor. All selected papers with authors' approval will be blind refereed.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION: Submit two (2) files in PDF format: (1) Complete paper and (2) Paper without the name/s and affiliation/s of author/s. Submission should contain: The title, name(s) of the author(s), complete address(s), EFM classification codes (available on our website) and E-mail addresses for each author. Please indicate which author(s) will attend and which author will present the paper. Multiple submissions by any author (whether joint or single-authored) will reduce the chance that any of their papers will be on the program. Please also denote your research areas (using EFM classification codes) that you would like to serve as a session chair and/or discussant. If your paper is accepted, you are expected to act as chair/or discussant in your field of research.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 15, 2015. Papers will be blind reviewed and authors will be notified by March 4, 2015. Please submit your paper electronically to the European Financial Management Association Conference at: http://www.efmaefm.org

Some twenty other papers will be selected for the Poster Workshop and will have one-page abstract published in the proceedings (with an ISBN number).

The Program Committee will award the best CSD&M 2015 papers in 2 categories: 1 prize of 2.000€ for the best academic or/and industrial paper and 1 prize of 1.000€ for the best student paper.

We would like to know if someone is working in a proposal to submit to the following call: COS-TFLOWS-2014-3-15: Facilitating EU transnational tourism flows for seniors and young people in the low and medium seasons

We have already done some research projects to a Portuguese organization - INATEL Foundation (which provides social tourism programs for seniors) - about the socioeconomic impacts of social tourism programmes for the senior market. We have also published some research papers and chapters about the senior and youth markets. Therefore, we would like to continue this line of research and we would like to know what are the possibilities of integrating a team that is already working on the proposal previously mentioned.

Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Annual International Conference 2015: Second Call for Tourism and Leisure Sessions

Dear colleagues,

The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is pleased to announce that the Call for Sessions and Papers has opened for its Annual International Conference 2015 (AC2015). Sarah Whatmore (University of Oxford) will be the chair of the conference, with the overall theme Geographies of the Anthropocene.

The Geography of Leisure and Tourism Research Group (http://www.gltrg.org.uk/) is inviting tourism and leisure scholars to propose sessions related to but not limited to the conference theme.

Sessions of high quality have previously been published as edited collections in the ‘Current Developments in the Geographies of Leisure and Tourism’ book series of the research group published by Ashgate (https://www.ashgate.com/default.aspx?page=5097&series_id=535&calcTitle=1).

If you are interested in organising and convening a session, please send a session abstract of approx. 400-500 words to Jan Mosedale (jan.mosedale@htwchur.ch) by December 8^th.

The conference is taking place at the University of Exeter, UK at the beginning of September.
