Conference Goals

The EuroMed Academy of Business annual conference has established itself as one of the major Business Management conferences of its kind in the EuroMed region (European and Mediterranean), in terms of size, quality of content, and standing reputation of attendees. Many of the papers presented contribute significantly to the business knowledge base. Its Book of Proceedings is highly recognized and accepted to be under citation. Many papers are published in Special Issues in leading journals, and are driving international research and teaching programs.

Our goal is to create a friendly and approachable academy and environment, a strong network, whereby its members (including senior worldwide scholars, faculty members, doctorate students, researchers and business practitioners) are guiding and mentoring each other. We differentiate as we assist participants to network and publish their valuable work (see below: a. Publication Opportunities, b. Authors' Network and Collaboration Workshop and c. Meet the Editors Session). Our participants also form specialised teams applying and getting involved in EU project funding. EMRBI network has submitted over 11 new projects last year. You can visit our Research Project Workshop (see below) that will take place during the conference.

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the First International Scientific Conference “Tourism and Development” organized by Faculty of Sport and Tourism from Novi Sad, Serbia and Faculty of Tourism from Brežice, Slovenia, to be held 6-7th November 2014 in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The Conference theme is tourism as a global phenomenon whose very fast development ranks this industry among the most powerful generators of social progress. Its strong contribution to the economic growth is evident therefore it is not surprising that the number of tourists and employees in tourism industry, as well as the revenues are being significantly increased each year. However, the economic growth has multi-faceted cultural, social and political consequences, thus the importance of thinking through, planning and managing tourism is growing.

Please see attached.

GeoVisual Analytics: Interactivity, Dynamics, and Scale

 Workshop @ GIScience (23 September 2014, Vienna, AT) &
Special issue of Cartography and Geographic Information Science (2015)

               Call for papers

The workshop is a follow-up of the successful workshops on
- Visualization, Analytics and Spatial Decision Support at GIScience'2006
- Geovisualization of Dynamics, Movement and Change at AGILE'2008
- GeoSpatial Visual Analytics at GIScience'2008
- GeoSpatial Visual Analytics: Focus on Time at AGILE'2010
- GeoSpatial Visual Analytics: Focus on Time at GIScience'2012

Selected papers from the previous workshops, including research agenda papers,
were published as special issues of
- International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2007, v.21(8)
- Information Visualization, 2008, v.7 (3/4)
- Cartography and Geographic Information Science, 2009, v.36 (3)
- International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2010, v.24(10)
- forthcoming special issues of Information Visualization (2014) and IJGIS (2014)

The workshop aims at bringing together researchers from relevant fields to
address research issues of geospatial visual analytics in the multidisciplinary
context of GI Science.

Geospatial visual analytics has a tendency to emphasize the spatial components
of geographic information. At this workshop we encourage approaches that utilize
and emphasize the temporal characteristics of geographic information, consider
geographic and temporal information at multiple scales, use interactive and
dynamic displays in visual analytics.

The theme for the workshop is the use of GeoVisual Analytics approaches for
exploring and analysing large data sets with spatial and/or temporal components.
Original papers are solicited in this area with innovative papers detailing tight
integration of visualization, data mining, database processing, optimization and
other computational processing particularly encouraged.
A special issue of CaGIS is planned as a consequence.

The workshop will give participants the chance to present ongoing and developing
work without committing to a full journal paper. The journal special issue will
provide selected participants with the opportunity of reporting their work in
a refereed journal. Papers will be selected for consideration for the special
issue according to the quality, maturity and likely impact of the work in addition
to its fit with the workshop theme and established research agenda
published in "Space, Time, and Visual Analytics"
http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/13658816.2010.508043

Example topics include, but are not limited to, the visualization and interactive
analysis of large data sets representing:

- individual and group movement behaviours, either in physical or virtual spaces
 dynamics of geo-localised sensor data
- spatio-temporal events
- remotely sensed data, multi-scale and multi-temporal
- large high-dimensional data sets in space and time
- streams of spatio-temporal data
- volunteered geographic information

as well as

- models and semantics of time in geospatial visual analytics
- knowledge construction and reasoning about spatial and temporal phenomena and processes
- application of innovative visual analytics methods to real-life problems

2014 June 11-17 - Münster (D) - Summer school on Gamifying Spatial Collaboration

Call for participation: Summer school on Gamifying Spatial Collaboration 2014

To mark the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Institute for Geoinformatics (IfGI) at the University of Münster is organizing a summer school to be held from the 11th to the 17th of June 2014, subsequent to the anniversary event itself (June 10th to 11th). The scientific symposium of the anniversary, which will be held on the 11th at the Münster Palace, is also the first day of the summer school. The goals of the summer school will be to explore both the theory and practice of gamification and spatial collaboration in geoinformatics, and how we can move towards applying gamification to enhance collaborative data acquisition in geoinformatics.

Course content

The summer school will take a close look at the opportunities and challenges that arise through combining geoinformatic technology with gamification for spatial collaboration. Two particular questions addressed during the school will be: How can gamification improve geoinformation technology? and, What are the opportunities offered by gamification to enhance collaborative data acquisition and the gathering of feedback? The summer school will consist of a 6-day program at the intersection of spatial collaboration, gamification and geoinformation technology. It will be held in the stimulating and creative environment of the Institute for Geoinformatics. The school is aimed primarily at graduate students, and we anticipate around 30 attendees.

Course program

The six days of the course will comprise two full-day tutorials, one on gamification and one on spatial collaboration; a social event; a hackathon and field work day; a tutorial day on combining gamification and spatial collaboration tools; and an interactive session on future developments. All tutorials will be given in English. Days will finish with social events including a tour of the

city, a

summer school dinner, a party, and a bar game. The sequence of the six days will be:

(June 12th): Spatial collaboration
(June 13th): Gamification
(June 14th): Social event
(June 15th): Field work and hackathon (June 16th): Gamifying spatial collaboration (June 17th): Future perspectives

Lecturers

Prof. Dr. Barbara Grüter, Gangs of Bremen, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Applied Sciences, Bremen

Dr. Peter Kiefer, Geoinformation Engineering, ETH Zurich

N.N.

Venue, Accommodation and Registration

The summer school will take place in the lecture rooms of the new GEO 1 building, Heisenbergstraße 2, D-48149 Münster (http://www.uni-muenster.de/Geoinformatics/en/). Fees including catering, lunch, a gala dinner and participation amount to 200 € per student. Accommodation needs to be paid separately. We strongly recommend renting a bike from the Radstation Münster (http://www.radstation-ms.de/), located directly in front of the main station, in order to facilitate mobility between various summer school events. In case you need any help, please contact us.

Application process
Interested people should submit a statement of motivation of about 500 words, briefly describing how the summer school might contribute to or enrich their own work. Application deadline: 15th of March
Notification of acceptance: 31st of March

After the notification of acceptance, participants will be contacted with registration details. Attendees will be asked to present their own work or an idea related to the summer school in the form of a poster at the end of the symposium on the 11th of June.
